Good Company is a friendly space to explore everyday philosophical questions in a relaxed group setting. We meet in-person in Wellington. Sessions are led by an experienced facilitator and explore a range of great teachings and traditions while remaining non-religious and open-minded.
These conversations aren’t academic debates, but thoughtful discussions that invite reflection, connection, and fresh perspective based on practical application and everyday life. Everyone is welcome—no background in philosophy needed, just curiosity and a willingness to listen respectfully and share.
The next group starts at 7.15 pm Monday 7 July at 31 Hobson Crescent, Thorndon, Wellington. The session is 1.5 hrs including a tea break.
Then if you like it, return at the same time each week for the following three weeks.
The cost of running these sessions is covered by koha. A suggested amount is $20 to $40 for all 4 sessions. Depending on your financial situation - please contribute what feels right for you.
Good Company is a relaxed, thoughtful discussion group run by the Wellington Meditation Centre. It’s designed simply to offer space for open conversation around timeless ideas—there’s no doctrine to adopt, no beliefs to sign up to, and no pressure to commit to anything beyond the sessions themselves.
While it can be a segue for those interested in exploring further with the https://www.wmc.nz/, Good Company stands on its own, and many attend purely for the quality of discussion and shared reflection.
Before coming along, we welcome any questions you may have. You can simply ask these by joining our online chat, or perhaps your question might be answered by our FAQs below.
We explore topics that are of general interest and of practical application to modern living. Some example topics are: What makes a good life? What is real happiness? What is beauty? What is the true nature of love? Are we really free?
Everything is provided, including discussion materials, pens, and tea and coffee. Parking is available on the street and in the Thorndon School car park closeby.
The group facilitator will introduce the topic with a combination of readings, quotations, video clips, or clips from a relevant podcast. This will provide a focus for discussion where you can comment, share your point of view, or raise a question. Sometimes, we’ll work in small groups, so that everyone can have their say. If you don’t feel like participating, that's okay. You don’t have to speak if you don’t want to. It’s fine to listen.
There may be suggested activities such as readings or suggested videos or podcasts between sessions, but not compulsory.
No. The purpose of the group is to have a good general discussion about our focus topic. It’s not designed to deal with personal issues.
Once you have made your Koha, we don’t generally give refunds. We understand that sometimes circumstances change and you may be unavailable to attend all sessions. If this happens, contact us, and we’ll see what we can do.
Absolutely. If you are unsure about attending all 4 sessions, simply register your details, and come along for the first session. You can then decide if you want to continue and give a Koha later if you want. If you are unable to attend the first session, come along to another night that suits you. The group facilitator will give a brief summary of what has been covered at the beginning of each session.
We would love to see you come back and join other discussions. We have a new topic starting every second month, so you are welcome to come along as many times as you want. We do ask however, that you register your details for each topic you are attending.
We’d love your feedback! Please leave us a Google review to help others find us. Thanks for your support!
